Our goal is to achieve multi-national partnerships to respond to high-risk biological threats to ensure global health security.
The Center for Biodefense and Global Infectious Diseases (CeBGID) is a non-governmental organization focuses on developing preventive strategies against infectious diseases and pandemics, as well as emergency response and defense tactics upon biological threats. The 2014-2016 West Africa Ebola outbreak fully demonstrates the potential health hazards a fast-spreading epidemic imposes on human population, the resulted substantial casualty overshadows the altruistic rescuing endeavors from frontline medical professionals. Meanwhile, the inadequate capability of emergency response to epidemics raises serious concerns regarding global health security. It is with high urgency that all nations should put relentless efforts in seeking comprehensive preventive strategies and emergency response plans, which should be endowed with competencies of containing epidemic outbreaks, monitoring and necessarily precluding strain mutations, and further obviating misusages of lethal pathogens. History being told that high mortality rate is generally observed in densely populated developing countries, where epidemics cannot be well-contained due to the lack of advanced medical and research facilities specialized in pathogen handling, patient care and therapeutic developments. Herein, we anticipate the establishment of CeBGID being an initiative for a united frontline against infectious diseases among Mexico and Latin American countries. Further, under current global political climate, no oversight should be tolerated regarding defense tactics against bioterrorism, hence CeBGID will as well dedicate in optimizing and implementing defense mechanisms upon potential biological threats with national and international supports. As science and technology advance further, pathogens are no longer invincible. We hope with this united front brought by CeBGID, health and global biosafety can eventually prevail. Best regards, Uriel L. Lemus, Ph.D.
Cooperative research to reduce biological global threats in collaboration with a broad range research partners is required. Our activities involve basic, clinical and applied research that will address to a better response against emergent high-risk biological threats.
Our efforts will develop strong international alliances which will foster an appropriate multi-national response as part of an international defense strategy to ensure global health security.
Our main goal is to develop biodefense strategies to advance partners nations sustainment through a culture of long-term cooperation and applied scientific programs.
